Carol Kaye is an 86 year old American bassist born on 24th March 1935. She is one of the most iconic female bassists in the rock and pop industry. In her entire 50 years career, she has made a wholesome of 10,000 successful recordings. In her early days, she used to play bass.
After that, she became a guitar instructor and started to play regularly in the Los Angeles Jazz and Big Band Circuit. Her professional career started in 1957 with the hands of the producers Phil Sector and Brian Wilson under Gold Star Studios.
Tina Weymouth
Tina Weymouth is a 70 year old, and one of the classy and talented female American bassists. She was born on 22nd November, 1950. She is mainly popular as a founding member and bassist of some remarkable musical groups like the ‘New Wave’ group ‘Talking Heads’ and it’s side project Tom Tom Club.
She successfully handled this project along with her husband and drummer from the Talking Heads group Chris Frantz. Her great achievement was when she was included into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of ‘Talking Heads’ in 2002.
Esperanza Spalding
This queen is the queen of jazz and one of the best female bassists. This 36 year old American genius was born on 18th October, 1984. Her talents and determination surprises me to the next level. She was originally born in Portland, Oregon. When she was only 5 years old she began her musical journey as a violinist in the Chamber Music Society of Oregon.
She self taught herself other instruments like bass and guitars. Her strong love and dedication for music gave her academic scholarships to Portland State University and the Berklee College of Music. She attended both the institutions where her core subject was music. Her biggest achievements in her career are 4 Grammy Awards, 1 Boston Music Award, and a Soul Train Music Award.
Kim Gordon
Kim Gordon is one of the free spirits. To pursue her dreams, she reached milestones. This 68 years old American singer, songwriter, bassist, guitarist was born on 28th April, 1953. She graduated from Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles.
Art was her primary interest. And to pursue art, she moved to New York. But later on her track changed. She formed the band Sonic Youth with Thurston Moore. Later on she and Moore got married and together the couple released a total of six albums and nine studios. Kim was also a part of the musical project ‘Free Kitten’.
